EXTENSION OF THE PROJECT: OUTLOOK, PHASES III AND IV

Within the scope of extension of the project, the challenges identified in phase II are to be tackled together with the manufacturers and the European parties in order to demonstrate the full potential of the DAC in rail freight transport.

These challenges primarily affect the following three areas:
E-COUPLINGS AND THE ROBUSTNESS OF THE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
OPERATION ON THE HUMP: BUFFER POSITION AND DECOUPLING MECHANISM
DAC ON THE TRACTION UNIT: HYBRID DAC

The demonstration train is first to be used for specific component tests and made available – referred to as phase III. The aim here is to provide support for development by making tests possible, including for functional samples. Thus, potential solutions for the electrical coupling and the decoupling mechanism can first be demonstrated at the level of functional samples.

THE DEMONSTRATION TRAIN

The fully equipped demonstration train with DAC type 4, ep-light braking system and measuring technology provides a unique opportunity in Europe in this regard in order to make these tests possible and conduct them. The knowledge gained in the process are to be assessed in relation to the findings of phases I and II. Over the course of testing, DAC4EU has acquired expertise which helps to be able to efficiently and quickly deliver a reliable assessment of the suitability of solutions

Phase III is also to be used in order to check any necessary conversion measures on the demonstration train, and carry them out as necessary. This way, it is possible to make sure that the technical condition of the systems is in line with the current discussions in the European committees (e.g. switch from 110V DC to 400V AC as voltage level).

SCHEDULE

The schedule provides an overview of the planned activities. The aim is to support further development of a DAC for rail freight transport in Europe which is ready for series production.
